Pevensey Castle discover 1,700 years of history. From ancient Roman fort, to medieval castle and modern Second World War operation and command post. Exhibition, museum and audio.
Good information boards/displays around the castle. The archaeological artifact display was interesting. The dungeon was hidden round a corner before the ticket office - we nearly missed it. Limited shelter if there is rain. A few benches and chairs are set out in the castle grounds and in the outer area. Public toilets next to the pub outside the grounds were well maintained.
We had a very interesting visit to the castle today. We have often walked through the grounds but have never been inside. There's a very good audio guide,an exhibition and lots more to see. Nice little shop too filled with gifts to buy. I would highly recommend a visit.
We were just walking past and decided to go in. There was more to see than we had time for unfortunately. As usual the English Heritage audio tour was great. The history covers Roman through 1066 to WW2. If you don't want to pay to go in just the outside is pretty impressive for a picnic
Wonderful castle ruins. Can walk around walls for free if you'd like or tickets to the keep/inside castle are around PS11 each. Part of English Heritage.
Joined English heritage, back in April, so have started to make the most of the membership. Came today in great weather conditions, last visit was a couple of years back so was nice to come back and see more. History was incredible, from the threat of the Spanish armada, when the shore line was alot closer to its involvement during WW2. Can even walk around the outside of the grounds still within the outta castle walls, definitely enjoyed by locals and can see why. Not far from home so probably back soon.
A really interesting place to visit, a large area outside for a picnic surrounded by the Roman walls. Inside the castle you see the later Norman castle and all the additions added Inc a pillbox from the second world war and being able to see where William the Conqueror landed was really interesting.
