Enjoy a wander around Pin Mill and escape from it all Get away from it all and explore the footpaths around the heathland, wooded cliffs and river valley. Head to the village for a pint or a delicious meal.
A calm and enjoyable walk this morning , as usual plenty to see with bird song along the way .
Absolutely stunning location on a good day! fresh river air. spent the whole day travelling and exploring. parked on the main road and walked down. I'd recommend booking in advance for the Butt & Oyster.
(Late Sept). Quite tricky to find, but rather lovely. Single track access road not particularly steep, but you do want to go slowly as limited places to pass, would be abit frustrating if it were busier with many cars, but we were lucky (also its going off season now).. Did see some bus stops in Chelmondiston village, so I'm sure you could walk down instead, if able, without too much difficulty). Several different trails you can take, v. nice views, quite unspoilt, peaceful, can go on a very long walk if wished. Quite a few random benches to sit on, & it open's out to fields with flowers every so often, but mostly forest, running alongside the river. Even had some public loos at the Butt & Oyster Pub location (near village green)! Not amazing, but ok, much better than nothing.. Trails can be abit tricky to find start of (can end up just in the boat yard dead end & much later on, it almost disappears around marina) but with a couple of small false starts, we found them again (v. small yellow arrows & a few signposts along route). Pub can get extremely busy ('tho pretty easy to escape crowds on the trails) with v. v limited parking there (& quite limited parking generally). Especially in peak times & when Sun's unexpectedly out. Esp. summer weekends, peak school hols etc.. But in off-peak times & less amazing weather, I imagine it gets near deserted at times. Right of pub route; riverboat community, boat graveyard, towards 'cliff' viewpoint, etc. Reckon after heavy or prolonged rain this is going to be super muddy & I bet it would get v hard to traverse! Also it's higher. Left frm pub route: long trails following river towards marina etc, much easier, much flatter, this side would do much better in winter conditions would have thought, but its still bare earth flattened tracks, so its still going to get muddy then...
Pin mill is a good spot to click some wonderful pictures. I am not very much fan of this pin location, rather, I would suggest to have a walk where Pinnmill road ends for a tidal view and enjoy the opportunity to click pictures. you can also take a walk to the footpath going from the right hand side of Butt and oyester restaurant. Here you can find the wrecked ships along the shore. I genuinely loved my time here. Highly recommend this place...!!! Parking: paid parking, Available at pinmill road Toilet: Available at Butt and Oyester Restaurant
Pin Mill is an amazing hidden gem perfectly placed in Suffolk away out of sight for those adventurers. It has a village community feel to it with spectacular views worth the visit overlooking the marina and many boats anchored across the bay. While your here why not stay a few nights aboard the Waldamar situated right on the waters edge with breathtaking views and feel the sea breeze enjoying your morning Suffolk breakfast. This is the closest I have ever stayed in such luxury accommodation at such an affordable price on such a work of art this boat has a life of its own. It has its own history along with the captains wheel. Pin mill offers everything for the family, with local place's to eat and with the famous Butt and Oyster within walking distance with free parking and also a pay and display car park. Lots of parking around here. Why not take your pets out on long country walks, across the hills seeing the horses on your travels all in its natural beauty. So take a dive and come spend time on the waters edge soak up the sunshine that comes with it and ride the waves with holding your Suffolk ice cream. We only get one chance in a lifetime to be here come and make the most of it. Make this one of those special moments being in nature, breathing in clean fresh air that will bring you back into life and take that empty canvass and draw the picture that can be shared to say I have been here. I can only give this place along with my stay on Waldamar 5 , I wish I could award it more then this.
This place is a wonderful little secret. Never that busy and very peaceful. The author of the swallows and Amazon books took some of his inspiration from this area of the river. It's like a step back in time at Pin Mill there's an excellent pub and fantastic walks along the inlet with wildlife to see and even a ships graveyard. Not to be missed
