A 3.5-mile circular trail that takes walkers through a unique and fascinating landscape of small, rounded hills known as pingos, which were formed when groundwater froze and thawed during the last ice age, creating a series of shallow pools and hummocks that are now home to a variety of wildlife and plant species.
Loads of wildlife to see, seated area on the lake which in summer is surrounded by reeds which small birds hop through but prevents you see out to the water, in the autumn/winter it dies back and you can see loads. The walk is around 8 miles and can be done comfortably in about 2.5hrs if you stop to eat and have a dog that's sniffs every 5 yards then closer to 4hrs.
The walk is around 7 miles if you do it all. I would disagree with those who say it is well signposted! We did the walk anticlockwise from the car park, came to a road with 3 possible directions and no signs! We turned round and did it from the other direction and had a similar problem. On a positive note we did see 2 muntjac deer and lots of insects and birds. It was pretty overgrown in places so best not to wear shorts!
Lovely circular walk - just over 7 miles from Stow Bedon carpark. Walk down the Pingo Trail and along the Peddars Way to Thompson Water and then back through the woods and across the common. Great walk away from the traffic. Highly recommended. Went again today and a still applies. Great walk!
Thoroughly enjoyed this 8 mile circular walk, clearly signposted all the way round. Took us 2hrs 40min. Woodlands, meadows, Pingo ponds, the dogs loved it. Didn't see much nature creatures but still enjoyable walk. Involved some roads and chances for dogs to be off lead. The only issue we had was it was very overgrown in some areas and had to force our way through brambles and nettles.
I have enjoyed walking the Pingo Trail for many years with my dog. Signposting is very good and there are information boards along the route. Can be very muddy after rain, and you will need insect repellant during the summer. Much of it is wheelchair accessible in dry weather.
Beautiful walk, really nice to see all the pingos and some really cute cows. Car park is somewhat small and usually fairly busy so be prepared to park in the lay-by!
