This 19th-century winding wheel, a Scheduled Ancient Monument, is a rare surviving example of a pithead winding engine, used to haul coal and miners up and down the pit shaft. The wheel, 14 meters in diameter, is housed in a small brick building and features a wooden frame with metal straps, demonstrating a blend of traditional craftsmanship and industrial innovation.
