A 15th-century tower house situated in the Scottish Borders, Pitsligo Castle stands as a testament to the region's rich history. The castle's rugged façade, adorned with crow-stepped gables and narrow windows, exudes a sense of fortification and defense. Its imposing structure, built atop a rocky outcrop, commands breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. Although now a ruin, Pitsligo Castle's remnants whisper tales of the turbulent past, its stone walls bearing witness to the conflicts and struggles of the region's noble families.
If you like small ruined castles; you'll love this. Not much of it left, sadly. But, what is here is worth seeing. The vaulted roof of what is left of the main hall is quite something. Well worth a visit if you're passing.
It must be an amazing place, when it was filled with life. The ruins are now in poor condition. A lot of stones falled down.
Very interesting ruin. There's an information board at the garden entrance and a wee parking area down a lane on the right. Can be muddy. Great views from the top of the hill
Great ruins of a historical castle. A bit over grown in areas, some rubble naturally. Regardless its a fab ruin with a information board at the old entrance, (perhaps a bit more info about the castle would be good) and you can park your car down the side just next to the ruin. It is free to go and explore. Definitely worth a visit.
Excellent ruined castle with lots of photo opportunities both with the castle itself, and with views across Rosehearty and out to sea. Also, readily accessible via public transport with a regular bus from Fraserburgh stopping a the bottom of the road, leaving just a five minute walk to get there.
Very much a ruin. This place is pretty much crumbling which is a shame. Still a good ruin to explore just be careful for falling rocks especially if you have children with you ! There is also another castle ruin just a stones throw away that you can see from this one.
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
