This magnificent feat of engineering is a navigable aqueduct that carries the Llangollen Canal over the River Dee in northeast Wales. Built by Thomas Telford and completed in 1805, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most impressive examples of canal engineering in the world. The aqueduct is 336 meters long, 3.6 meters wide, and 1.6 meters deep, with 18 piers that support the canal. It is a remarkable structure that allows canal boats to cross the river, with stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The adjacent Trevor Basin Visitor Centre offers interactive exhibits, a café, and a shop, providing insight into the history and construction of the aqueduct, as well as the canal's significance in the Industrial Revolution. Visitors can take a stroll along the towpath, enjoy a boat trip, or simply admire the engineering marvel from various viewpoints.
Lovely place by the canal. Good facilities though the car park is only for blue badge holders. We were able to park over the road in the tearooms car park for PS3 all day. Lovely walks and the canal bridge was phenomenal. Very picturesque area and close to Llangollen for activities and great shops and coffee.
Definitely worth a visit. An interesting place to spend a couple of hours. We visited on our way home from holidaying in North Wales. Stunning views from the top as you walk across the aqueduct. Canoeing trips and boat trips are available if you have more time.
Lovely spot, and it's great to go for a walk in the area! You need a bit of a head for heights, but it's well worth walking over! Some lovely views to be had also.
An amazing structure to walk across or even better take a narrow boat tour across and learn more about the viaduct! Not one for those with a fear of heights though! And beware with small children as the original railings along the walkway are wide enough to allow little ones to slip through the gaps! But well worth a visit.
Enjoyed a gentle cycle down the towpath from St Martins to the aqueduct through the tunnels. Nicely maintained path just one small section which was slightly overground but still passable. Lovely views all the way. The aqueduct was the busiest part of the towpath but not overrun with people. Enjoyed a light lunch outside the Telford
Scenic views and at least 45 minutes waiting for getting the ride, but the price of ticket ( PS10/person) is very high. Overall, it's good for walking and spending time outdoors.
