This 230-acre park features a mix of woodland, grassland, and heathland, with several walking trails, including the 1.5-mile Portland Trail, and a variety of wildlife such as deer, foxes, and birds. The park also includes the ruins of Rufus Castle, a 12th-century stronghold, and offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside and Chesil Beach. Visitors can explore the park's many features, including a children's play area, picnic sites, and a café serving refreshments.
This park is amazing. There's a forest and a small stream going through it. My favourite walk is through the fields leading to Annesley where there is horses and you can just about hear the buzzing of motorway in the distance. No other park feels as special as this one, with it's mysterious aura. Always come back with my friends or on my own.
Dog owners beware, my dog got injured on her front and back paws, while in the woodland leading from the park towards the railway bridges. Costs incurred over PS1,000 pounds. The cut was so deep her tendon was visible. This is usually a favourite walk. She will now have to be on lead in this area.
Lovely hidden gem, Free car park with plenty of space. The park has plenty of trails to explore. The pounds are just lovely to and next to the visitor centre. Definitely recommend a visit.
Grew up playing in Portland park (down quarry's ) from Mayfield street a group of us would spend most of the weekends/holidays down here as kids, 20+ years later thought we'd go down see if it's same, couldn't find the water steps but found the bmx track (humps n hollas ) although over grown still looks like kids are still having fun there, found the "paddling pool" was surprised the boat has gone, its the first time in all my life I've seen it with water in yes I'm coming up to 40 but walking round here took me straight back to being 10, great cafe good selection of food even full cooked dinners, beer bar bonus, great day out won't leave it so long next time PS, anyone know where all the old photo albums have disappeared to I remember looking through these as a kid and most of my family the Browns, and Hutchinson's off Mayfield street were in em,
Nice park to visit and walk around. Woodland and fields. Has ponds with wildlife. Cafe and visitors centre. Free car park, sign posted from the town centre with brown visitors signs.
Not a very big walk and not really a dog walk, just a gentle stroke around but nothing more. Was fairly smelly around the pond area.
