Visitors can wander along the winding paths, taking in the vibrant colours and scents of the blooming flowers, and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere. The garden also features a community-led project, with local residents involved in its maintenance and development, making it a true gem of the community.
I absolutely love Portobello. On a sunny day it's perfect to listen to the sea and relax
An unusual and well maintained little space, quite different from the usual planting one finds in public spaces and very much in keeping with its beach surroundings. The Coade stone pillars are really quite striking and it's worth taking the time to have a good look at them and read about them on the interpretation boards. They are made from Coade stone, a type of weather-resistant ceramic. The pillars are listed structures and date back to the early 19th century. They were originally located in the garden of Argyle House, Hope Lane. The Portobello Amenity Society restored the pillars and erected them in the community garden. The Portobello Community Garden is a popular spot for spending contemplative time. There is relaxed seating behind a fence that protects you from the wind. The wide flat paths allow easy access for all. The garden is a delightful area, a corner of tranquillity in contrast to the busy beach area.
Portobello is a beautiful beach not far from Edinburgh city centre, easily accessible by public transport. The wide promenade is popular with cyclists, runners and dog walkers....room for all but watch out for the bikes if you have young kids. There are plenty of cafes and takeaways to choose from and an old fashioned amusement arcade! There is also a public swimming pool and kids play park. Definitely worth a visit.
These towers are a really treasure to find out on your way walking beside the beach. The preservation of Coade Stones columns are great, I loved the exquisite patterns in the columns. #portobellocommunitygarden #portobellogarden #portobellobeach
A beautiful little park on the prom. The Coade stone pillars are truly beautiful. It would have been amazing to have seen them in situ originally. Situated at the bottom of John St, considering how busy the promenade is, this is a fairly quiet park.
