Streamlined rooms in an unassuming budget hotel offering complimentary limited Wi-Fi & parking.
Once again an overnight stay was needed and, naturally, a booking into a Premier Inn. Can't be beaten most of the time, and this one was no exception. Free parking a bonus in any area. Check in on one of the self service machines, a first for us oldies but quite easy although, our mistake, two key cards would have been useful. |Nice room on the first floor with all amenities available. Comfy bed with a nice shower although bath was a little slippy and that could be a little dangerous for infirm and, indeed, for children. Hair dryer just outside the bathroom. A health and safety aspect that, at times, is lost in many hotels. Tea/coffee making facilities. Extra pillows and plenty of hangers and hanging space. TV, not that we ever watch while away.|Out of the room, on the ground floor, a very nice bar and restaurant. We had paid for a 'meal deal' which worked out perfectly. A few drinks beforehand and then a nice meal from a reasonably extensive menu. I would say that most would find something that they liked. We made a mistake of ordering the sharing platter as a starter. Didn't realise how large it would be so the main part of the meal was a little wasted but total tasty. Service could not be beaten. Quick, efficient and totally professional but, a bonus, friendly. In fact all the staff were like that and, they all, were smiling. Makes a change. This friendliness did not change at breakfast. Buffet menu and freshly cooked. Plenty of choice. |One minor thing to point out for travellers in the future. My phone was going flat and the charger in the car was playing up. All my payment cards are securely on my phone but it was no panic as we always charged up in Premier Inns on their USB sockets in every room. Here there were no USB sockets anywhere. Luckily, the guy at reception came to the rescue by loaning us a plug in socket.|All in all another wonderful stay, for a reasonable price, in a Premier Inn. It won't be the last.
Cannot beat it! Premier inn offers luxury at a fantastic price - the bed always offers an incredible nights sleep and the black out curtains are a dream to make sure sunlight doesn't take away much needed rest on a little break away. Breakfast is PS10.99 per head but it is well worth it as it is unlimited and fresh with both continental and hot breakfast offering great selection - and the food was good quality right up till the end of breakfast hours plus at the time I went children ate free which is fantastic for my 10 year old daughter. We will definitely be choosing premier more often and recommending to friends and family. And we will purchase the mattress for at home too
Price was good as we needed 2 rooms and it's very handy for Margate and surrounding area (as long as you have a car). Has some amenities near by but also large retail park within 10 minutes drive. No fuss. Staff very good and rooms were basic but clean and all needed for a short stay/one night stop over. Would use again without hesitation.
Lovely, clean hotel with helpful staff.Family of 4 travelled from Newcastle for Dover. !! Only downside was the dire air con. Worst night sleep in a long time. Air con wasn't cool or powerful enough and after a very hot day the room was like a sauna. And you couldn't open windows it was so stuffy. Asked reception for a fan at 1am for my children, which I got. It managed to keep children comfortable but not enough for us all. Felt awful next day, perfect for driving to France.....
Stayed 2 nights. ||||Check in was a wait for a staff member so used the self-check in. Computer system was slow. ||||Room size 4/5. Booked a standard room, really pleased with how much space there was. Brilliant number of plug sockets & mirrors. ||Extra soft pillows & towels were already in the room. ||||Plenty of parking available. ||||But downside were the staff. Hardly there / didn't engage with them. ||||Also, couldn't connect to the Wifi. 1/5 rating on this.
I regard Premier inns as functional but they do get the balance right for me in that they provide all the basics I want efficiently and to a good reasonable standard but without too many (if any) frills. Commendable approach to having somewhere to stay as far as I'm concerned.||I'm leaving a review ( which I don't make a habit of) because the staff - all of the ones I came into contact with- were conspicuously cheerful and helpful throughout on this visit. This exceeded my expectations for ' no.frills' so commendation due!||I also ate both breakfast and one evening meal which again I approached with perhaps limited expectations but and again I was favourably surprised - not posh cuisine but what they did was spot on - better than anticipated- and delivered with a smile. ||Two details I strongly approved of and commend:||Decent coffee machine in the room. A major plus for me.||Lots of kids in the restaurant but no disturbance - a strong suspicion this is because someone has paid attention to the acoustics of the restaurant so many places with fashionable wooden floors and hard surfaces are tiresomely noisy but the acoustics in the 'Smugglers Retreat' kept things comfortable without the kids having to sit unnaturally still. Bravo.||
