This 18th-century cotton mill, now a museum, showcases the history of the Industrial Revolution in the UK. The mill, powered by the River Bollin, features original machinery and offers insight into the lives of the workers who toiled here. The surrounding Styal Estate Country Park boasts beautiful gardens, woodlands, and a working mill pond, as well as a recreated apprentice house and a medieval-style woodland walk. Visitors can explore the mill, take a stroll along the river, and enjoy the scenic countryside.
Had a morning free and decided to go for the day to explore the area, not sure why hadn't visited before, fabulous walks and so much history through the museum and buildings. Probably one of the best NT places we have visited. I have to add the restaurant was a disappointment, we ordered a Cornish pastie, it certainly wasn't anything like a true Cornish Pastie and was burnt. Ended up sending it back and swapping for baked potato! Apart from that all good.
This area is perfect for all day trip. No matter if it's muddy or sunny, your day here will be well spent. I love this place. Great and friendly staff and atmosphere. Please keep it this way
Great place to escape with fun activities for the kids and plenty of places to walk around. The mill has been amazingly restored for you to experience what it would have been like. The volunteers are really helpful and chatty too.
A fantastic place to see how a mill worked over the ages. Working looms and water mills. A great visit.
Most enjoyable day well worth the PS22 entry fee
