A majestic 18th-century Gothic-style palace, Queens Sconce is a striking architectural gem nestled in the rolling hills of the Scottish Borders. Its imposing façade features a symmetrical arrangement of towers, turrets, and battlements, while the interior boasts opulent State Rooms, adorned with intricate plasterwork, ornate furnishings, and exquisite artwork. The palace's scenic surroundings, including beautifully landscaped gardens and a tranquil lake, create a serene atmosphere, perfect for leisurely strolls and picnics.
Nice to see it busy on a lovely sunny day. Enjoyed the play area as well as having a walk generally. Looked like lots of work being done to look after it.
Love that wide-spaced park to come and have a rest or fun with our kids. Playground for kids, slides, big green field to play with the ball, run or walk around, paths are nice and all tidy.
There's so much to Sconce Park. Aside from being in the envious location of only 10 minutes walk from Newark town centre - it's around the corner from Hawtonville, on the doorstep of the allotments and a short walk from Newark Hospital. I love Sconnys for dog walking, the River Devon and Rumbles Cafe which is a social enterprise giving people with learning disabilities responsible jobs and opportunities. The playground right next to the cafe is adventurous and there's now also an adult fitness area. The Queen's Sconce is also a crucial destination for people on the Civil War trail and a nationally significant battle ground. The Kings Sconce at the other end of town is now buried under a new housing estate. Enjoy the park and keep it for generations to come.
Excellent place to walk your dog. Generally clean most people pick up after their dogs. Nice river although its very high just now. Coffee shop on site.
