This nature reserve is a haven for wildlife, particularly birds, with its mix of wetlands, grasslands, and woodlands. The site is home to a variety of species, including otters, water voles, and birds such as lapwings, avocets, and marsh harriers. The reserve features a network of trails, including a wheelchair-accessible route, that allow visitors to explore the area and enjoy the scenery. There are also several hides and viewing areas where visitors can observe the wildlife without disturbing it. The reserve is open year-round, and events and activities are held throughout the year to engage visitors and promote conservation.
Pretty decent birding, with a small hide on a smallish pond. Great place for a walk.
Great little urban fringe reserve, easily accessed from Alloa. It has a range of habitats and is bordered by the tidal River Forth. On my most recent visit I had 3 Whimbrel, Sedge, Grasshopper and Garden Warblers, nesting Lapwings and a pair of Shovelers. A Spoonbill turned up there a few weeks ago. It could do with a proper hide which is why I give it only four stars.
Clearly marked paths make this area easy to navigate. Other paths are negotiable with some difficulty at this time of due to the height of the foliage. The attached photos give a rough idea of what the terrain is like in the surrounding area.
Didn't visit at the best time of year, but there's lots of work evidently in progress and it will make a fantastic habitat with lots of educational tasks when it's completed. Could use better parking and signing at the entrance.
