Buckenham Marsh contains marshland, reedbed, wetland and valley habitats. We manage our wet grassland for the benefit of wintering waterfowl and breeding waders. We also manage our pools, ponds and ditches for the benefit of aquatic flora, wildfowl, otters, water voles and bitterns. Work includes maintaining ditch edges, improving water quality, removing vegetation from open pools and increasing the number of fish. There is parking at Buckenham train station, walks around the reserve and viewing locations. There are no toilets or visitors centre.
Wonderful place. You got 2 hides, Fen hide, and tower hide. Fen hide is a short walk past reception through woodland edge. Tower hide is a lot further, and, you want waterproof and decent walking boots as the path is prone to flooding and very muddy and wet. You can also go through the woodland for a walk too. Toilets on site and Buckenham Marsh down the road is a short walk and short drive too. Parking available too. Pond dipping available at certain times. Buckenham Marsh has 1 hide with a great view.
Saw some great wildlife including a Chinese water deer, however the reason for the 3 star review is outside of the main viewing area most footpaths were very overgrown meaning we couldn't walk as far as we would have liked, a shame but we're likely to revisit maybe in autumn to see if it's more passable.
This place is beautiful. You can park near by. They have a hide which is actually open. I saw so much wildlife. Really had the best time out. They have a fishing area if that is your thing. Would have loved to go into the other rspb site walking distance from this one. This site is dog friendly the other is not.
Always has more birdlife here than you think. I am always surprised whenever I go. Even when there is less birds here, there are many more than you will find in RSPB Strumpshaw Fen. It is well worth the walk if you go as far as the water tower. Best time of the year to go (for maximum number of birds) is during the breeding season (April to June). Wear suitable footwear for walking.
So very beautiful, there is a variety of birds and wildlife to see. Don't forget your binoculars!!!!
Lovely place to walk around and spend time with nature. The scenery is quite flat, which means that even from ground level, there's plenty of good views all around. There is a very remote and un-spoilt feel to this place, which makes it great!
