In the woodlands we aim to maintain a varied mosaic of mature trees and scrub formed from a complex mixture of tree species of varied ages and sizes. We manage the flower-rich, grassland meadows with extensive grazing using old breeds of cattle and traditional hay making. Consall Woods is 194ha (479 acres) and includes both the former Consall Nature Park and the RSPB Churnet Valley nature reserve. There are no visitor facilities on site but we have parking, nature trails, a picnic area and lots of wildlife. The terrain is steep and muddy in places. Dogs must be kept of leads due to the sensitive nature of the wildlife habitats.
The center was closed looked run down. The ponds have loads of patches of algae looks bad, only birds on the pond were 5 Mallards. Took the white route thought it would be fun but it was extremely difficult climbed massive hills for no real reason, no rare birds only common ones. The trail was dangerous all the rails are rotten and the steps are crumbling should be closed. The other trails looked nice and the woodland is amazing so a great walk but birds seemed to be somewhere else.
Great place lovely walk through the forest and down the canal to the black lion
Beautiful place in ALL seasons and all weather! Plenty of parking and good to have the toilets there too.
A number of different walks to follow. We followed the white trail but think we went off key a little. Nevermind we had a wonderful view over the Churnet Valley. It is recommended you wear trainers or appropriate footware if you decide to walk the white or purple route. Definitely recommend for a nice afternoon walk in the fresh air.
