At almost 1000 hectares, RSPB Dungeness boasts a range of habitats. Predominantly shingle habitat with its unique lichens, plants and insects it has the largest expanse of shingle anywhere in the world. Dungeness also has open freshwater habitat which provides a home to thousands of wintering wildfowl and nesting seabirds. It also has important fen habitat, wet grassland and wildflower meadows. We have a visitor centre, car park, toilets, RSPB shop, refreshments, nature trails and viewing areas. Dogs are allowed in the visitor centre, in the car park and on the public footpaths only, and are required to be kept on a short lead at all times due to the sensitive nature of the wildlife habitats.
Front desk reception was so welcoming and informative. You can rent binoculars which is a must have if you want to zoom in on good views. Wind resistant clothing and boots recommended during the hike but not a must have.
We spent a lovely few hours walking here on a very hot day! The staff were very welcoming and friendly and pointed us in the direction of the best route for our twin granddaughters. They both had a wonderful time searching for bugs and bird spotting. The back packs, information sheets and bug bottles were such a good idea. We will definitely be returning and recommend the reserve to anyone with an interest in nature.
Stunning and peaceful. We went on a grey and slightly rainy day and it was relatively quiet. Stayed for about 3h, alternating between listening to birds on the trail and sitting in the hides to look at wader birds. Staff was very friendly. Facilities were good (very clean bathroom) and the shop is a delight. Highly recommended.
Lovely place to unwind just watching the wildlife. Information centre and shop. Toilets. Wellies are a good idea in winter as it can get muddy.
Such a great place to watch birds and soak up the quiet and peaceful atmosphere. Shop is well stocked with mainly bird associated items, lovely walks through the reserve and several places to sit and watch the wildlife.
