Havergate Island is Suffolk's only island and sits within the River Ore near Orford. The coastal habitats include saline lagoons, saltmarshes, vegetated shingle and mudflats. Access is via pre-booking only.
If you donate your money is wasted. Phoned up about an injured animal was in queue on phone for over 30 mins ( no problem) but then was told that if the animal was still there and injured tomorrow to phone back and they will collect. The poor thing had a limb hanging off.
A fascinating RSPB reserve, almost totally isolated from the outside world. Access is by ferry, by prior arrangement. It's definitely out the way, but this works in it's favour, the birds not being disturbed by humans. Facilities are of course, very limited.
