RSPB Marshside protects 155ha of coastal grassland and pools, and 230ha of saltmarsh on the shores of the Ribble estuary. The RSPB is managing the reserve to protect important populations of breeding waders and wintering wildfowl, plus other wildlife such as brown hares and wintering birds of prey. There's something for everyone all year round at this delightful coastal reserve. There are two hides, a viewing platform and three viewing screens. We have a visitor centre, car park, toilets, nature trails and viewing areas. Dogs are permitted on the public footpaths but should be kept under close effective control to avoid disturbing the sentive wildlife and habitats.
Very nice for a walk although very wet, saw amazing plants and wildlife including birds and smaller fish and shrimp. Wellies are definitely needed though
Some lovely places to walk and enjoy the views
Beautiful nature reserve on the Southport coastline, but away from the hustle and bustle of the promenade and tourist attractions. Lovely peaceful walks, with loads of bird-life to see. Whilst there I saw a pair of little egrets, gulls and on the way there, a marsh harrier. Car-park is pay and display and for 3hrs and over is PS3. Anything under is PS1.50.
Parked free and displayed our RSPB card. And our doggy was allowed with his leash on . We managed to get a list of 50 species. Pity the visitors centre was vandalized and the Porta loo,s were taken away. Lovely fresh air with a chilly wind off the sea. Had our picnic in the car . We will definitely go again soon.
Great place to come and watch the local wildlife. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Clean and tidy throughout.
Interesting place. Not as strikingly beautiful as e.g. Formby but unusual and with intersting wildlife. Very few people around even on a sunny day.
