Beautiful and tranquil, Middleton Lakes is a mosaic of wetlands, meadows and woodland in the heart of the River Tame Valley. Several kilometres of trails lead visitors through a variety of rich habitats, alive with a variety of birds including grey herons, kingfishers and lapwings. We're managing the reserve as a refuge for wintering wildfowl, breeding wetland birds and passage migrants. Other important wildlife includes reptiles and amphibians. We have parking, wildlife trails, bird hides and visitor hub. Next door at Middleton Hall there are toilets, cafe and shops. Dogs are allowed only on certain trails.
Very nice nature reserve very close to Birmingham. There is a small visitor centre at the car park. Fairly long walk from the car park to the first lake, but it is through woodland and alongside a stream so very pleasant. Lots of different birds on the lake one big hide overlooking the furthest lake. There were not many people about when we visited. Parking free to RSPB members.
The perfect location for families and couples to take a nice long walk with stunning scenery varying from rivers, woods, lakes and canals. Great spot for the birdwatchers with plenty to spot!
This is truly an amazing place. I visited it on Easter Sunday and was greeted by the wonderful staff, full of life and information. If I wasn't a member before, I would have definitely joined there and then. The place itself. Stunning views, lovely walks and plenty of birds. The air was full of birds singing, just what you want to hear. Beautiful.
Visited on the opening weekend of the play meadow, friendly volunteers around to explain activities and available walks and wildlife. The play meadow is made up of a few fun things for the kids, mud kitchen, pond dipping area, slide, instruments, gravel tip and pour area, picnic benches, wooded area - overall lovely. Then of course there are the lakes!
Great place for bird life and a regular go-to location because of its close proximity to the M6 toll, on and off ramps. It is not the place for those with difficulty walking without electric locomotion, due to the great distances to the lakes from the carpark. Small ice-cream shop opens at weekends, with a kids area behind it. Special activities can be booked through the RSPB website. Evidence of needless vandalism at the otherwise previously well equipped farm house. Exactly why this listed sites has been abandoned baffle us, when it could be used as a habitatble working headquarters.
Lovely location and scenery. Plenty of birds to see for a pair of novice birders . If not an RSPB member PS4 to park- entry is free. Middleton Hall is about 100m from the car park and has a nice little cafe in the courtyard
