We have a visitor centre, toilets, car park, nature trails and picnic areas. The car park is free to use and open 8am until dusk, so changes throughout the seasons. The Visitor Centre is open 8am-4pm Apr-Sep and closed Nov-Mar. Nagshead is a great place for wildlife, and is recognised as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). It has a mixture of habitats including woodland, ponds, glades and rides. RSPB work in partnership with the Forestry Commission in the Forest of Dean to manage the reserve. The summer-visiting birds are replaced by winter visitors like bramblings, lesser redpolls and redwings. October is the time of the deer rut and fallow deer can be heard calling throughout the forest for a brief period.
Lovely walking loop, plenty of places to stop and ponder and soak in the environment and surroundings. Toilets at the car park, and even a little warming area to thaw out in colder times at the main RSPB building adjacent the car park, which is free.
A long walk to the hide. 3 birds there a long way away. Need binoculars. More wildlife in my garden.
Had a great walk along the 'long trail'- our highlight seeing several sightings of wild boar, including piglets, and a deer. Lots of birdlife.Lovely tranquil spot.
Loved the place, plenty of birds to watch and listen
Great place to have a quiet peaceful walk. We walked the long trail and it wasn't too challenging, just the odd slope here and there. Lots of birds to spot but sadly we didn't see any wild boar.
Really lovely reserve, an easy 2 mile walk, minimal noise from the local stone works. Facilities were not open today so worth checking in advance. We saw nuthatch, treecreepers, greater spotted woodpecker, a beautiful buzzard. A treat for me as I am normally on the coast and away from woodland! Look forward to returning in the summer when some activites/events are on.
