Get close to nature at RSPB Sandwell Valley, just a stone's throw from Birmingham. Enjoy a relaxing stroll away from the hustle and bustle of the city, take in the view at the Visitor Centre while having a cuppa and a chat. There are wild play activities around the trails for the little ones to have some messy fun. Sandwell Valley is the perfect place to enjoy wildlife, have fun and relax outdoors.
We arrived by bus (red 16 platinum) from the city centre, a 5min walk from the bus stop. A small but friendly volunteer run visitor centre. Parking if needed both by the centre and closer to the exit. If you walk around the lake, the bottom section is Council owned. We stopped at the hide to look at a few birds (binoculars provided) and walked the entire pathway back to the visitor centre. Took us about an hour including the stop at a slow pace. There are a few benches along the route and it's largely a gravel path with a couple of sections natural paths. A cycle path was nearby and a few joggers. We enjoyed the visit and had a drink and ice cream at the cafe before catching the bus back into town.
RSPB Sandwell Valley is a gorgeous place with different hides and an abundance of birdlife and other animals. The staff are knowledgeable and engaging, and always make time to answer any questions. There are so many beautiful birds and a lovely cafe for people to enjoy a beverage whilst enjoying nature. RSPB Sandwell also does events and activities for children, fostering a love of learning and protecting nature in our young people. A really wonderful place to go, especially with young children
A local couple with a visitor from Portugal received a very warm wcome. A good map and after a really interesting walk and visit to the hide where volunteers were exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful. We had a very good coffee and cookies to order
Lovely visit - staff were young and friendly (and knowledgeable). People you meet are pleasant along with those I met in the hide. Always happy to show you where the birds are and where to look. Wonderful and relaxing and great to see all the gorgeous birds.
Really interesting place, totally impressed. They also have sightseeing place, unfortunately we couldn't see that because it get closed on 4:00pm so if you guys want sightseeing then visit before 4 pm. It's a lovely place specially in summer.
It's a nice place for a walk - not muddy!! One of the few places that isn't right now, so that's worth a star. If you're a hardcore birder I wouldn't say it's the best RSPB reserve; it's very children focused, and dogs can come in too. Lots of blue bits of rubbish along the river tricking me into thinking they were kingfishers grr!
