A picturesque beach with soft, golden sand and calm, clear waters, perfect for swimming and sunbathing. The beach is surrounded by rugged cliffs and scenic coastal paths, offering breathtaking views of the coastline. At low tide, the beach reveals hidden rock pools and a vast expanse of sand, ideal for beachcombing and exploration.
Stunning! We sailed to Hoy from N Ireland 4 years ago but didn't manage the walk to Old Man so came back again in a Motorhome this time. We were lucky with the weather but unfortunately the midges were a nightmare up at The Old Man and in the car park where we hoped to stay for the night. So so bad we had to move on. We were here in August.
Beautiful place. Well worth a visit.
So quiet and still....and the high hills all around make you feel small and insignificant - very humbling. Great place to come have a picnic, but I would recommend paying for lunch at the cafes on the island to help boost the local economy.
Gorgeous beach and we had it to ourselves. Toilets open (2 near car park, one in bothy) though bothy shut. Not particularly easily accessible as big round stones to navigate to get to the beach. Make sure you do the walk up to Old Man of Hoy, allow 3 hours. Spectacular scenery and not too much of a climb.
We spent a few hours at this idyllic location a couple of summers ago. The weather wasn't great, but that meant we almost had the beach to ourselves. One of the most beautiful UK beaches I have visited.
This place is WoW. Beautiful and I can't find the words to describe it. Must see, must visit.
