Rait Castle is a 14th-century tower house located in Nairn, Highland, Scotland. The castle features a rectangular tower with a sloping roof, surrounded by a courtyard and enclosed by a curtain wall. The tower has four storeys, with the ground floor serving as a basement, and the upper floors containing grand halls and chambers. The castle's architecture is characterized by its narrow windows, battlements, and machicolations. Although it has undergone several restorations, Rait Castle still retains many of its original medieval features, offering a glimpse into Scotland's rich history.
absolutely stunning, a dark history which is defo worth reading up on but would recommend. Little hard to get to and have to wonder if you're lost but worth driving through a field for
A cute little castle with an interesting history. Quite well preserved. Not that difficult to reach either.
A little off the beaten track literally but well worth a visit. You will miss the narrow track if you're not switched on though. Look out for a hand written sign and you're nearly there. You may see the angry Turkey protecting his female partner too . The ruin is in good order and the immediate ground around it is tended to. The only issue is the parking its limited. The ruin is at the end of the narrow track but I don't reckon there will be throngs of visitors.
Beautiful old ruins not easily accessible to all being located behind farmland, not suitable for wheelchair users. No parking as such. The Ruins themselves are steeped in history and are well worth a visit, the community who look after Rait Castle are doing a great job.
Beautiful Castle on some farmland in the middle of no where. No ideal parking, we had the driver stay with the vehicle incase someone needed us to move. Walking up to the Castle you have to open the gate and continue walking until you get to two more gates. We went to the left gate and up to the front of the Castle. The right gate went into the wooded area and we didn't bother going that way. Remarkable piece of history.
You have to drive up track to reach this castle, please drive with care as it's used by farm vehicles and animals, there's no proper car park but you are able to park. Lovely quiet little spot, when I visited it was full of bluebells, lots of song bird's singing.
