A former coal mine turned museum, showcasing the history of coal mining in the UK, with preserved machinery, exhibits, and guided tours that take visitors deep into the underground tunnels, offering a glimpse into the lives of miners and the industry's significance.
A little hidden piece of history - there isn't much to see but you can spend 10 minutes here, there is an information board which explains everything. A small pedestrian bridge crosses over the rail tracks to the dramway where you can walk around several large fields adjacent to coalpit heath - popular with dog walkers!
A very tranquil, historical place to visit. 19th Century colliery next to train line through Coalpit Heath. Open all year round to the public and a well looked after sight. There is limited parking but can also be reached on foot or by bike on the cycle track via Westerleigh. You can see the Engine House, the Horse Gin and the Dramway. I would advise sensible footwear for walking around the sight. You can also see bird boxes and bat boxes in the trees. There no loos but Bitterwell Lake has them which is approx 5 minutes walk away.
Not a great amount to see, but an amazing piece of the local history! If your interested in coal mining/colliery's it's defo worth a visit!
