The Raptor Foundation is a bird of prey conservation and education centre located in Woodland, County Durham, England. The foundation is home to over 350 birds of prey, including owls, hawks, eagles, falcons, and vultures, with many species represented. Visitors can get up close and personal with the birds during flying displays and demonstrations, and learn about the importance of conservation and the role humans play in protecting these magnificent creatures. The centre also offers guided tours, a chance to handle and fly certain birds, and a play area for children.
Such an interesting place , ticket is cheap , many birds of prey to view close out of cages . Lovely place for photographer to wander about and the owl display flight and the Harrison hawk was just breathtaking! Strongly recommend visiting for any age ! Just a head up - they show birds in natural way ( giving them treats - small dead chicks on the fly display, so if you want your child to not see this just get out a bit before the end , not everyone can handle and I , well I got some great photographs
Great day out at the Raptor Foundation. Ticket were PS25 for a family of four and we spent most of the afternoon walking around looking at the owls, buzzards, hawks and eagles. Great flying displays and exceptionally knowledgeable staff. Nice lunch in the cafe too and not expensive at all.
We enjoyed an afternoon here a couple of days ago. The staff are friendly, the animals look well cared for, and the souvenirs are very reasonably priced. There is a cafe if you want drinks and snacks, and they allow you to bring your own picnic but ask that food not brought from the cafe be eaten at the picnic benches outside. The little boy I brought to visit the sanctuary gave it a 10 out of 10 and is already planning our next visit The birds stretch their wings outside with their handlers at 12 noon and 16:00, there is seating available if you want to watch the show. Have fun!
Lovely place, all animals looked after so well, staff very attentive and knowledgeable about all the birds they care for. Will definitely go back.
We had a really fun and educational afternoon here. There were far more birds than I expected, all well cared for by expert keepers. You get to see buzzards, kites, hawks, and many types of owl, many of which you can get up quite close to and take good photos.A lot of the birds are out on perches, not behind bars, so you get a really good look at these beautiful creatures. The keepers are around answering any questions, giving regular talks and interesting information, and the flying demonstrations are awesome. Seeing a majestic Chilean Blue Eagle swoop past me at less than a metre away, and then a cute and cheeky Ural owl with its distinctively comical waddling run go past me so close I could have touched it, well, that was an experience our family will never forget. 100 % worth the entry fee. Thanks to all the keepers who look after the birds and helped us make the most of our time there.
Extremely knowledgeable staff, beautiful birds, and so many! They're having a fly-athon on Aug 11th '24 to raise money for new enclosures, highly recommend
