This 18th-century barn, located in the picturesque village of Hawkshead, is a charming example of traditional Lakeland architecture. Its bright red color, achieved through the use of red limewash, makes it a striking feature in the surrounding countryside. The barn's rustic charm and historic significance have made it a popular subject for photographers and artists.
Eclectic mix of high end gifts and items for the home: lamps, display shelves, sculpture, artificial flowers. They are displayed in a very elegant building in this very quiet relaxed setting off the beaten track. When we visited it was in full Christmas mode with a wide range of decorations and gifts. There is an extensive selection of artisan pottery and jewelry upstairs from a very wide variety of small suppliers. Some of these were part of a current exhibition by Ronnie Fulton and Staffordshire ceramicist Mark Smith, so check the current range on the main Larch Cottage website. Much of the jewelry is in draws with self-service browsing. On the one hand it takes some time to look through the full collection of hundreds of items - but on the other it highlights the wide variety as each collection is revealed. Well worth a visit.
This is a gem among galleries. It is so varied from artwork to jewellery... wonderful place!! Larch Cottage Nursery at the same site is also one of the best, with a lovely restaurant too.
