These medieval stone castle ruins are a dramatic landmark for visitors to the scenic surrounds.
Wonderful old castle ruin with beautiful views out over Lunan Bay. You have to park on the road in a lay-by of sorts and then walk through a gate adjacent to said lay-by. The castle is obviously in a state of ruin but we where in awe of it just simply because of how old it is etc. A nice experience to pop here for some views and to see it, so in my opinion worth a visit if you're nearby.
The path to Red Castle is 150yards before google tells you to turn off. There is a lay-by to park in and a gate to the path to walk up. Not huge amounts of parking. The ruins were really beautiful with pretty costal views! Would recommend visiting if in the area.
This is an amazing ruin to visit. We had walked the North end of Lunan Beach and then we carried on to visit the castle. The castle itself is ruinous and is fenced off but you can still get an appreciation of the size of the place. There is a path to follow although a big tree has fallen so there is a diversion and it is reasonably steep. Parking is very limited we were parked at the beach car park. Once you visit the castle there is another path to go and visit the south end of Lunan Beach which is what we did, it turned out to be a very good long walk.
Stunning!! Viewed it from Lunan Bay great walk great scenery! Very dog friendly and has a wee cafe to rest at after the walk! Definately worth a visit =)
If you appreciate history amd a magnificient view go here. Old ruins but you can visualise the history.
The ruins are on a bluff overlooking the wonderful Lunan Beach , the castle can be accessed from the small road leaving Lunan though there is a restricted access due to a recent mound landslip.
