The Reedham War Memorial is a Grade II listed monument located in Reedham, Surrey, England. The memorial commemorates the lives lost by the village's residents during World War I and World War II. Designed by architect Eric Oakley, it features a simple yet poignant design, consisting of a tall, slender column topped with a Celtic cross, standing on a square pedestal. The pedestal bears inscriptions of the names of the fallen soldiers, along with the words "To the glorious dead" and "At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them." The memorial is surrounded by a small, well-manicured garden, adding to its serene and contemplative atmosphere.
The memorial is prominently at a fork in the road at the main road entrance to the village. Erected circa 1920, it commemorates 18 local servicemen and one servicewoman who died in the First World War, and six men from the village who fell in the Second World War. It is protected by grade II listing.
Fantastic to have a Memorial in Reedham. It's well looked after too. Unfortunately, a little too well looked after.......my memorial cross was removed along with all the others about 2 weeks after I placed it there?? I'd saved it specifically to place at this Memorial after a recent and very emotional trip to do the Battlefield Tour around Ypres, Belgium. I felt I wanted to honour the fallen from Reedham that gave their lives rather than leave it in Belgium. I have to say I was very disappointed and upset that ANY of the crosses were removed, as the whole point of them being made of Wood is that they slowly decompose and are taken back into the Earth and symbolise the fallen. I know flowers are nice and need looking after but all the memories have been thrown in the rubbish bin now. Not the fitting end these memories deserved
