Retro gaming across all home computing and console platforms from the 1970s onwards including a small arcade area.
After being in the computer retail business since the early 80s, visiting this place has been a long-held wish of mine. Finally, today, I had the opportunity to fulfill that wish, and it absolutely exceeded my expectations. Seeing all those retro PCs and gaming machines, most of them still in working order, was truly mind-blowing. I even had the chance to get my hands on a few and try them out. What's even more exciting is that the owner mentioned plans for a bar and library opening on-site soon. It's great to see that the space is evolving to offer even more to its visitors. One of the highlights for me was seeing so many parents bringing their kids along, and watching them all enjoy the retro games together. It's a wonderful place that combines nostalgia with pure fun. If you're looking for a trip down memory lane or just a great time, this place is an absolute must-visit.
My partner and I visited the Retro Computer Museum as a surprise for him. With surprises, there is always a great weight of expectation and I undoubtedly must admit that this place met those expectations. Upon arrival, we were politely greeted at the reception area by their lovely staff member and were encouraged to explore and stay as long as we wanted. For the first part of our visit, we spent time playing computer games on the older consoles which brought back memories for my (slightly) older partner. We then moved up to library section upstairs where there were a vast array of resources... to be precise... the largest video software collection in the UK which a point they should be bragging about more. As we were flicking # through old copies of floppy disks, we were approached by one of their confident and friendly staff members about our visit. He explained he works in software engineering and is cross skilled in Graphic Design. I fail to remember his name, but his kindness, informative style and attention to us as a pair left a memorable impression. For that alone, I give the Retro Computer Museum five stars. We hope to return soon.
I've had two kids parties hereand both kids and parents loved it. Every computer you can think of. Just ask for a game (eg. super Mario/ wonder boy) and stagffwill set it up. Or just play a console already set up. There's a room full of arcade machines including pin ball machine, driving games, street fighter, pacman, paperboy. If you can remember it, they'll have it! Fully hands on. Bargain price for hours of fun. Lovely outside area that's a sun trap.
Sick as hell. Extensive video game collection over dozens of consoles and decades + assorted collectors editions, special editions, magazines. Lots of people on Sat, but not crowded. Great atmosphere. Brilliant fun trying games out on old hardware that can be expensive to procure. I enjoyed the SNES on a CRT. I'd been wanting for a while to see the real difference in video quality to emulation on modern screens. (Don't miss that you can press RESET to access hundreds of other games on the ROM cartridges). Well worth taking the bus out of town. Not difficult. Wish there was a similar place locally to me.
Absolutely amazing. If you have ever had an interest in gaming either casual or if you are an enthusiast.....THIS place will blow your mind. Spent a whole day here over the weekend with my boys and we had a blast. Everything you see you can play on. However, one of the best things about the museum is the staff. These folks are gamers first and volunteers. They genuinely LOVE what they do and it shows. Thank you to Simon who spent time chatting with me about gaming and showed me around the insane library this place has. I'll be a regular visitor here for some time to come.
Great afternoon out for the kids and the grown ups. Every game you can think of is available to play on computers / consoles from past decades to current day, which you can tell are looked after well. Snacks and drinks available. A separate section for upright gaming. They will soon be opening a library too. The staff were very helpful and if you can't find a particular game they will find it for you. Reasonably priced and they have a loyalty card to build up to a free visit.
