Really happy I stumbled upon this gallery, conveniently on the main road to Rhue Lighthouse. James' work is well-suited for the Highlands--especially in person, the layers and textures stand out like topological features. The new series on the Hebrides in the summer is stunning. Pictures of his works can't do them justice. I had a nice chat with James about his art and work process, even though it was clear I wouldn't be able to buy any of his original art. He has very good insight on how he became an artist, how he thinks as he works, and what drives him to paint. I'll definitely take some of his advice on doing and balancing what he loves to heart. Before I left, I bought a card; James also sells prints. I would highly recommend stopping by for a look and chat; this was my favorite spontaneous stop I made during my trip.
Wow, what a hidden gem - it really is well worth making the effort to visit. To be able to wander in when James is creating these wonderful works of art is a real treat. He gave me and my kids a wonderful tour and talked about the art all around the place. We can not thank James enough for being such a great host and for the fabulous works of art. Cracking art in a brilliant gallery space. When I visited, the artist who owns the gallery (James Hawkins) had an exhibition of his own, stunning works, several of which were proper large scale that would full the living room wall of a large house. James was friendly and forgave me that his style was not mine, but I can easily see that they would make a centerpiece to anyone's collection. The gallery space is lovely - light and shows the work well. Of the many galleries I have visited in the last few days, many could learn from showing their works in a more flattering light!
A absolute beaut of an Art Gallery with the most strikingly gorgeous and vibrant pieces of art! Really blew me away with awe! Such an amazing experience my time spent with James and Flick, lovely lovely people who I admire so much. Well worth a visit and would definitely recommend.
