This museum showcases a vast collection of Roman artifacts, including mosaics, jewelry, and coins, which provide insight into the daily lives of the Romans who inhabited Ribchester. The museum is built on the site of a Roman fort and bathhouse, and features a reconstructed Roman garden and hypocaust (a space under the floor of a Roman house). Visitors can explore the remains of the fort and bathhouse, and view artifacts such as the Ribchester Helmet, a rare and well-preserved Roman cavalry helmet.
PS4.00 per adult entry fee. Good collections of various items. Ask to be pointed in direction of site outside. Street parking and walk rest of the way. Lovely young lady on ticket desk upon entry. Very friendly and helpful.
Lovely little place, lots to see, lots to learn, my kids loved it. Can be a bit of a pain finding somewhere to park at times, but don't let that put you off. The Museum is a fantastic little place
Really well laid out and thorough museum. Well worth the money and journey. Lovely staff.
Not all of the museum is wheelchair friendly
Despite its' small size, the museum is well worth a visit if you are interested in history / Roman Britain. Friendly, helpful staff are available should you have any questions, and the Roman finds in the museum are supplemented by actual (outdoor) remains of the Roman presence in Ribchester (the Roman Fort Granaries, plus a Roman Bath House nearby). The admission fee is a nominal PS4.0 for Adults (March 2022), and there are toilets here - but no refreshments (- there are pubs with grub nearby).
Great little museum! Really interesting and the church next door also. Ps the lad on the desk when we asked how old the church was with the response "I'm not sure maybe 40/50 years"! Did make us chuckle!! .
