Rinns of Islay Lighthouse stands tall on the southwestern coast of Islay, Scotland's southernmost Hebridean island. This 34-meter-tall (112 ft) lighthouse, built in 1825, guides mariners through the perilous waters of the Sound of Islay, a busy shipping lane. Its striking white tower, topped with a black lantern room, is surrounded by a rugged, windswept landscape of heather-covered moors and rocky shores. On a clear day, the lighthouse offers breathtaking views of the Paps of Jura, the Oa Peninsula, and the Irish Sea.
