The River & Rowing Museum inspires escape and exploration, telling the many stories of the River Thames and promoting the protection of the wildlife that calls it home. Its doors open onto art, history, rowing and the life of the riverbank, all in the most beautiful setting on the Thames Path in Henley on Thames. Open 7 days a week during school holidays.
Fantastic museum loads to to see. Information about Henley, rowing, the river itself. They also when we visited they had a lovely wind in the willow exhibition, a photography exhibition and my favourite a space exhibit showing artifacts from human space flight. The space vault has objects and stories that accompany them, These items are amazing to see and a must see for any space fan. The objects might seem random to a none space fan but you have to remember that these are items from the Apollo missions up to current day space X missions, that are now in a private collection, therefore these items will always be smaller items that can appear on the open market for sale. It is great to see these objects of history preserved and available to see.
A great place not only for Rowers! The collection is very impressive and covers all aspects of the traditional sport of rowing. If you row yourself, there is no discussion that you have to visit this place, but do not be afraid to bring your non rowing family with you... there is something for everybody. Decent ticket prices, it was not very busy even during school holidays. Do not forget to take pictures with the Redgrave/Pinsent statues in the back and check out the Row2Recovery boat, which has crossed the Atlantic!
A very charming and beautifully laid out 'museum'. Many interesting exhibits and because it's not to big - you slow down and look at them. A very pleasant and repeatable experience all round. Thoroughly recommend
Really nice place. Many things to learn, fun for kids as well. Note to the staff, please revise some of the info tables. There wasn't humans in Europe 400k years ago
Onky had a little time but what i saw was lovely
Situated along the serene banks of the Thames, the River and Rowing Museum in Henley isn't just a destination; it's a voyage into the world of aquatic wonder. Picture this: rowing history meets interactive exhibits in a building that's as sleek as a racing shell. The museum's design itself is an ode to the sleek and streamlined world of rowing, giving you a taste of what it's like to glide gracefully through the water. From antique boats that seem straight out of a Jules Verne novel to the riveting history of the Henley Royal Regatta, the museum takes you on a fascinating voyage through time. It's like a time machine where you trade your oars for a paddle through history. But it's not all history and no play. The museum knows how to keep things exciting. With hands-on activities for the little (and not-so-little) adventurers, you can try your hand at rowing, even if your only experience with it involves a canoe and a dodgy life vest. The piece de resistance? The Wind in the Willows exhibition! Follow in the webbed footsteps of Ratty and Mole as you explore the world of Kenneth Grahame's beloved characters. It's a whimsical journey down memory lane that'll make you want to jump in a boat and explore the riverbank yourself. So, whether you're a seasoned rowing enthusiast or just someone who appreciates a well-crafted museum, Henley's River and Rowing Museum will leave you feeling like you've embarked on a memorable adventure. Dive in and let the tides of history carry you away - you'll thank us later!
