Rockbourne Roman Villa is a unique archaeological site and museum, situated in a peaceful part of Hampshire near the historic town of Fordingbridge, on the edge of the New Forest. Here you can walk amongst the remains of the largest known villa complex in the area, which once stood in the centre of a large farming estate. Its history spans the period from the Iron Age to the 5th century AD. The villa site includes the remains of bath houses, living quarters, farm buildings and workshops.
The site is huge, but unfortunately most of it is under the grass to preserve it. Still it has some beautiful mosaics and a unique hypocaust. Lots of objects found at the site displayed including a beautiful Byzantine bucket which is well worth seeing. Ticket lasts for a year.
Very out of the way and down ridiculous country lanes to find. It's small but worth a visit just to see something different. PS5 for a ticket, no to very little signal when there but staff can look up your ticket if you can't get it to load on your phone
The show was great . The actors were brilliant. I enjoyed the show
Not a huge place. But very informative, and the people are very friendly and helpful. A good little place to take your kids with a large field for a picnic too.
We visited today and weren't sure what to expect, but had a fabulous time I should say that if you are looking for large impressive ruins then this isn't the place. The location is well kept and has some mosaics, bath house under-floor heating and other ground level ruins. Much of the site is laid out with gravel to show the positions of walls that were previously excavated before being recovered to protect them. There are plenty of information boards but the visit was really made great by the fabulous staff/volunteers who did a guided talk and were really happy to help, talk about the site etc. There were also artifacts in the small museum and activities for the kids. Well worth the PS12 for a family of 4. The kids were genuinely interested in it (and in fact asked to go in the 1st place). It was also a lovely spot for a picnic. Recommended.
It's not Fishbourne but absolutely fascinating anyway. A lot of molehills which seemed to bring up further bits of tile etc. well worth the visit
