This 13-hectare nature reserve features a variety of habitats, including woodland, grassland, and wetlands, providing a haven for local wildlife. The reserve has several walking trails, including a wheelchair-accessible path, that allow visitors to explore the area and spot birds, insects, and other wildlife. The site also includes a community orchard, a pond, and a variety of plant species, making it a peaceful oasis in the heart of the city.
Both a lovely circular walk for yourself/with your children/with your dog, or a great way to commute between the town centre and the industrial areas to the east. It can get heavily flooded after storms and in the winter, so take care with accessibility. For most of the year though, it's absolutely beautifully well maintained, with the majority being left wild.
I love walking the dog up here but the bikes riding fast are a real pain, especially when you have ear plugs in and you don't hear them behind you. Plenty of seats, bins etc and picturesque
Much better in the summer but still nice river is still high at the moment could do with more seating so people could take a break for a bite to eat or drink
What a difference to this part of the river. From a bog/marshland to the present day nature reserve. Thanks to the council for improving the paths, adding bridges and improving the grounds. Making it very pleasant place to walk. This area had nothing to do with industry or the railway until your the other side of the five arch bridge where the individual estate is on the other side of the river and the forge slag heaps and tar lakes on Thompson Street side now houses there
Best place so far in Darlington for a solitary run.
Go nearly every day, lovely walk
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
Dogs allowed
