Rokeby Park is a short distance from Barnard Castle in County Durham. The house was designed and built by amateur architect, Sir Thomas Robinson, between 1725 and 1730. An important early example of the neo-Palladian style, the house contains a rare 18th century print room, period furniture and paintings, and a unique collection of needlework pictures by Anne Morritt (1726-1797). The river Greta, inspiration for Sir Walter Scott's epic poem, Rokeby, runs along the east side of the park, a short walk from the house, and the River Tees to the north. Open Mondays and Tuesdays in June, July and August, 2-5pm (last admissions at 4.30pm).
