This 13.7-mile heritage railway runs from the Cinque Ports town of Hythe to the village of Dymchurch, passing through the Romney Marshes, a scenic area of natural beauty. The railway features a range of vintage locomotives and carriages, offering a nostalgic and leisurely journey through the picturesque Kentish countryside.
Great fun and enjoyable. Weather was miserable but you can still enjoy the train and stations to have a mooch around. Staff are super friendly and engaging. We purchased the rover ticket. Plenty of space on the train. Parking is free.
Awesome place. Came with the family (our boys are train obsessed). Paid PS69 for a family rover so could travel all day. Staff are great and trains and stations clean.
An enjoyable ride through varied country, longer than I expected. Was a fine day so open carriage was appreciated although most are enclosed but with large opening windows. Caught first train of day so not too crowded. Seemed to be adequate parking at Hythe although I did not use this. Light lunches available at most stations.
It's a nice ride on a steam train from Hythe to dungeness but a bit like a fare ride coming back. Dungeness has a nice cafe & shop on site.
This is a very impressive little railway, functioning like a normal steam railway just smaller. New Romney station has a very cool miniature railway exhibit, with a very large model railway model that fills half the room. The heritage centre gives lots of interesting history on the railway itself, and there is a nice, inexpensive cafe for a bit of lunch. And, of course, the tiny steam trains. It's astonishing to think of the weight those little things can pull and boasting a top speed of 20mph. The only downside is the slight awkwardness to get there by public transport. A train to Sandling (one an hour) and a local bus (also one an hour) but we managed to time it pretty well, and we enjoyed our visit.
