A scenic valley in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Rotten Calder features lush greenery, sparkling streams, and picturesque villages. The area is popular for hiking, with trails offering breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.
A great place for dog walks that is walking distance from most homes in High Blantyre. It's an easy place to access and navigate; there are 4 access points to the river trail (that I know of) from roads in the town. It's quite quiet. On the more popular parts of the trail, you can expect to come across 2 or 3 other dog walkers. Many people let their dogs off the lead (including me). On quieter parts (especially the trail on the other side of the river), you'll be lucky to see anyone else at all, even at midday. The river is at the bottom of a revine so I wouldn't recommend it to people who have mobility issues. There is an especially hilly section with lots of steps, for example and 2 of the entry points are very steep. Considering how close this area is to civilization, it feels very remote.
Beautiful glen, I love walking my dog and taken photographs here, its so beautiful at any time of the year. It can get very muddy so sensibly waterproof boots.
Beautiful scenery & great walk for dogs
A beautiful glen surrounded with lush trees and beautiful local flora and fauna. Good for a walk with the dogs or with friends.
Great area handy for houses. Good for a walk, challenging for a run. Cycling is also fun, but be prepared to dismount for stairs.
The best place for a walk I used to take my dog for a walk there and in August and September she loved the blackberries and a swim at the falls
