Exeter's world-class museum has stunning displays and galleries, with fabulous changing exhibitions. The displays reveal Devon and Exeter's rich history and global connections. Exotic animals, birds and insects delight children, and the world cultures galleries display stunning items from all over the world. RAMM is open Tuesday - Sunday 10:00 - 5:00. RAMM is closed Mondays and Bank Holidays.
A museum with two entrances. I entered from the garden side, the exhibits I saw on the temporary sides were about transport. It also has cultural history from all over the world. I liked the room with the stuffed birds as you could use a magnifying glass to see feathers close up. There was also an interesting interactive activity to choose a particular type of bird characteristic (such as beak and legs) for its suitability in finding food. Apart from that, there was a lot of history of Devon and Exeter displayed. You could also get a guidebook which shows all the exhibitions details (by number).
To start of with this review, there is free entry, which is awesome! We started of with going to the Mummy section, we saw a coffin which had a body in it from 3000 years ago! It was amazing, some sections was shut due to the building work going on. We moved down to the tribe section which reminded me of Lilo and Stitch. We went down to the old exeter section we saw some amazing stuff, there was a lot of interactive activities which helped keeping interested. We also made a roman mosaic which was really addicting and I made a great one! I would like to add more to this review but there isn't much space to do so, overall I recommend going.
Great museum. Took the kids over the Easter holidays on a rainy day - it was naturally very busy. But there was plenty to look at and different craft activities available to book onto too. Some really interesting items. Great way to spend an hour or two. Only downsides, they currently have no cafe which was disappointing but unavoidable and we found it a little tricky to navigate but it was busy.
A great old museum with some brilliant exhibits and things to see. A terrific place to visit for anyone of any age. If you are visiting Exeter, you should definitely put this one on your list to visit. The Giraffe and elephant in the pictures are around 100 years old if I remember rightly. There is so much to see here and its completely free!?
A great museum that's free to visit. We went here with our children on a rainy Saturday when we were staying nearby in Exmouth. It's a lovely building and the Lego model of it in the museum is really impressive. There's a wide range of exhibits from local history, natural history and world history. We enjoyed the temporary exhibition on the history of transport, which had an area with wooden train tracks for children to play with. There's a lift up to the entrance of the museum from the street or a set of stairs. There's a separate lift in the museum to access the upper floor. Also an area to leave buggies and lockers, if you need them. The staff are friendly and welcoming and are happy to give you an overview of the museum if you've not visited before and they're great in children. We plan to visit again and can happily recommend to others.
An excellent place with lots of different things to see. There are a number of interactive sections which kept the younger ones interested. Bonus point is that it is free entry.
