168 acres of water built as a canal reservoir in 1797 and still supplying both the Caldon & Trent & Mersey canals even today. The second largest reservoir for the canal system in England.
Beautiful peaceful place. No litter and places to stop by the lake and have a picnic. Railway runs along the edge of the lake so you can take in views while enjoying the nostalgic narrow gauge small engines. A couple of stations to stop off at on the way. At the Dam there is a boat club and cafe. You can hire boats or take your own paddle boards and enjoy the watersports. Perfect day out.
Lovely peaceful location to chill out and enjoy. Very scenic Food & drinks, ice cream, picnic, parking and toilets available.
There is a cafe and picnic area. Also, free car park available at train station but you can park next to the lake with additional charge. Many activity to do with reasonable price (just make the sure about starting time, I think weekend they start from 12 not the morning) - Worth the visit !!
Thank you to Chris & his colleague for helping us sail on the lake when due to mobility issues one of our party could not use a rowing boat. You went out of your way to make sure we had a lovely experience, nothing was too much trouble. Thank you very much
Lovely walk, plenty of different places to park. We did the circular around the lake and passed 2 cafes and a sailing club, where you can rent rowing boats! Loved looking at the houses by the lake. Also a volunteer-ran railway on one side of the lake. Great day out!
Love Rudyard- great to go and walk and decompress / de-stress. Sometimes dog training on the lake, kayaking, paddle boarding, sailing etc. Two great cafes- one near the dam ( fab bacon, sausage butties and cakes!), the other at the sailing club - again great options- has some vegan items too.
