The Discovery Centre is an accessible hub for Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, with the glorious Lime Kiln Cafe, celebrating the best of local produce, a shop & fantastic views. Staff and volunteers are here to welcome visitors and help everyone engage with the special wildlife on the reserve. We put on events for everyone and run educational activities for schools and young people. The Discovery Centre is managed by Sussex Wildlife Trust and is a joint venture with the Friends of Rye Harbour Nature Reserve.
I took my Dad, who is disabled and rides a mobility scooter. He could easily get into the centre. We had a coffee while watching the birds across the marches. The main paths were ideal for his scooter. I photographed some lovely birds. I shall come back another time to go into the hides.
Drove down from London to spend a beautiful sunny afternoon here. Surprisingly quiet along the circular walk I chose (4.5miles) and the Discovery Centre had a welcome coffee and cake on my way back. Lovely place and gorgeous surroundings.
Nice food the Pasty and sausage roll were very nice, very friendly staff, reasonable prices. Free use of binoculars
Very pleasant restaurant, cafe shop just a short walk from the main car park at Rye Harbour. Was busy with dog walkers, bird watchers and couples. Was nice while drinking hot coffee to be able to use binoculars to look at the birds and surrounding area.
Visited yesterday. Great family destination. Lovely discovery centre for a cake and drink stop with free use of binoculars while you refuel. Also has lovely selection of gifts in there. Paths are paved so easy walking and perfect for the kids keeping up on skates or scooters or even hoverboards. Lots of bird life to spot. Beach was long and stony but at low tide it revealed some of that sand from Camber which the kids loved.
Beautiful open nature reserve on the way to Rye. Expansive areas of natural habitat and wetlands for wildlife and birds. Bird watching huts and an elevated glass cafe where you can sit and observe the view with binoculars. Short walk to the sea where you can view camber sands beach. Rye Harbour is a an unspoiled coastal stretch situated at the mouth of the river Rother at Rye Harbour along to Winchelsea Beach. It's beautiful. Perfect for dog walks or just sitting for a while and taking in sea air.
