Located only 7 miles from the centre of Northampton, Salcey Forest is an oasis of nature and history This magnificent woodland has many miles of ancient wood banks, building remains and ancient trees. The 'druids', or veteran oaks, are rare and amazing wildlife habitats, and some of the old oaks are over 600 years old. See what you can spot on your visit to this medieval royal hunting forest. We've got endless walking trails, a family cycling trail, adventure play area Go Ape, Bike Hire and even an onsite cafe selling tasty homemade meals and cakes in a warm, friendly environment.
Unexpected stop with the dogs. First time visit and was pleasantly surprised. It was busy due to hols but there's a new overflow carpark. Parking is a bit much for an hour but you could stay the day for the same.
great place for a long forest circular walk, took us around 2:20 mins for the woodpecker trail (6.5 mile). can be quite muddy even when sunny weather so beware!
This is the inspiration for 'BB'S' book, Brendon Chase. He was from Lamport and spent a lot of time in salsey forest looking for his beloved, purple emporer 'appatura iris'. He wrote a column for the shooting times for years and often mentioned salsey forest.
Nice woodland paths well laid out with bike hire also. Go Ape, Play area and cafe not tried.
An excellent location for a family day out. Lots of walking routes of various length, all family and disabled friendly. Plenty to keep children of all ages interested and occupied. Excellent toilets, play areas and cafe.
Good facilities, could do with a few more picnic benched, great outdoor space we'll looked after, easy to get too and plenty of parking, could do with a few more than 3 options on the parking meters
Wheelchair-accessible car park
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
