Not really fair for me to rate Saltcoats. We stayed at a caravan park there and really only used it as a base for exploring surrounding areas. The harbour itself isn't the prettiest I've ever seen. But it does yield some of the best views I've seen. The town does have pretty much everything you will need shopping wise. So it can't be bad.
Used to love the place as kid the old museum displaying pictures and history of Saltcoats now just ruin. The harbour needs a fresh lease of life to bring back being tourist location. Still worth a visit in summer Saltcoats can do better

Amazing family fun for price of an ice cream. Hadn't planned to visit here but when we saw the beach decided to stop with our picnic. The beach was quite quiet and spotlessly clean. Had hours of fun enjoying the fresh air, even had a paddle. Only a few other families on this beach and all lovely. Ice cream van sits on the promenade and sells lovely whippy ice cream at a reasonable price. A small play area nearby and a few roundabouts which we avoided so ended up a very inexpensive fun day out
