Saltwells National Reserve is a huge natural oasis right in the middle of the urban West Midlands. Nationally protected for our outstanding geology and heritage we are proud to be at the center of the Black Country Global GeoPark and at the heart of a vibrant local community of visitors and volunteers. Saltwells is 2.5 miles long and 100ha in size, so there is plenty of it to explore, whether its a leisurely amble with around the Sculpture Trail, a hike around the Murray Grey Trail or a voyage of discovery through the history of the planet on the GeoTrail. The nature reserve also changes throughout the seasons so there is always something new to discover; spring bluebells, summer butterflies, autumn colours and bracing winter views.
A small and easily accessible nature reserve with lots of entry points. Easy green space for locals and the nearby Saltwells restaurant is good for amenities and lunch. Some history points here too which are interesting. Just a shame the reserve has been abused by some people - multiple areas of rubbish, squatting, fly tipping and wild camping with litter left behind in many places.
Enjoyed a stroll with the kids before heading to the saltwell in for food. Yes it was a muddy adventure but the best goal at the end.... food Love, love, love as always. Vegan balti was nice but naan bread was was rock hard. Hunters chicken always the best. Spicy chicken burger was nice too can't moan there!!
Absolutely beautiful place. Had loads of fun without the dogs. (Nice break from our life lol) but definitely somewhere we will take dogs in future. Loved the sculptures and the tracks that went off in different directions. Wasn't as big as we expected it to be but not sure if we were missing something? We were there just two hours and had looped part twice of it and gone across a road into somewhere else.
Such a lovely place to visit, both my husband and I are disabled so we couldn't go very far but we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! So many different types of trees it's beautiful. When we finished walking we walked through a little ally and came to a wonderful pub, it's so clean with an amazing garden with a little playground for the children. The saltwell pub I think it was called
Amazing place. You can easily spend hours there. However. Carpark is awful. It has space for about fifteen cars. Then you have to park near people's houses. Also they have routes you can follow. However I couldn't find a map letting me know which route to follow. So needs some admin done and it would be great. But the reserve it's self is absolutely great.
A nice enough walk, not very busy. We did the longest walk which was easy enough and I'm not really a walker! It was lovely to see horses roaming around freely in the hills.
