This beautiful community garden is a tranquil oasis in the heart of Sandown, Isle of Wight. The garden features a variety of plants, flowers, and trees, with several themed areas, including a sensory garden, a wildlife garden, and a World War I memorial garden. Visitors can explore the gardens, attend one of the many events and activities, or simply sit and relax in the peaceful surroundings. The garden is also home to the ruins of Sandown Castle, a 12th-century fortified manor house that adds to the garden's historic charm.
Attractive little garden on the site once occupied by Sandown Castle. In late spring the colourful array of flowers really stands out and helps attract bees. There are plenty of benches around to sit and enjoy a coffee from the van that often parks nearby. Good to see the local community putting in the effort to create this lovely little garden.
We walked along the seafront to the Community Gardens. It was relaxing and the weather was nice. I wasn't sure what I expected to find although I knew the area had been made into a garden. I thought there would be some ruins. However it was so beautiful and there were so many colourful flowers. The view of the coast added to the atmosphere. One has to be careful of uneven paths. There is a food truck nearby which is available for drinks, etc which we didn't have time to use. It was nice to enjoy some quiet time, nature and the surroundings.
I love jogging on the beach for my early morning exercise, then having a walk around the lovely gardens on the castle, before I start my photography classes and editing my wedding photos I've done on the weekend. It's also nice place to relax and look out at the sea , and just seat there , on the other side there is the Hog and Roast , Van where you can get a cuppa tea or a bacon sandwich. I like going there very early in the morning before my day starts.
Rockery gardens formed at former Castle site by local enthusiasts is well worth a visit. Beautiful in Spring sunshine with a large variety of plants.
Love this place as a gem north of Deal. Lovely park with flowers and bookswop. Also great place to eat and have the best Cappuccino we tasted in UK next to the park at Hog and Bean.
Oasis of tranquility with beautiful gardens and, frequently, stunning views of sunsets, stormy weather, or both at the same time. Also a good access point for walks along the beach or around the nature reserve. Depending on the time of day/week, @BangingBeans serves coffees, teas, etc. Even when caravans clog the parking closest to the garden, there's usually room for cars to park just up Sandown Road.
