A 170-foot-high (52 m) waterfall situated in the Lake District National Park, Cumbria, England, where the Scale Beck stream plunges down a rocky slope, creating a misty veil that surrounds the area, surrounded by lush greenery and accessible via a hiking trail.
We were blessed with good weather but still the water was freezing. We walked from Crummock Waters which was about a 7 hour walk with two stops for swimming and lunch. Starting and finishing at Lanthwaite national trust car park.
Recommend using the lower path from Scale Bridge as opposed to the higher short cut. Both wet but higher path only an alternative route after a dry spell. Flip side is that waterfall is magical after rain! Enjoy!
Amazing cool hike that took me to this waterfall, and I was blown away by how beautiful it is. Very rarely do you see a double, huge waterfall that's caved in and hidden like this one.
Lovely walk from buttermere village, heading towards buttermere lake but instead turn right and follow the track. You will walk through some very narrow peices and head towards crummock water but you will soon start to follow the track left and start to climb up. Lovely water fallespcially after it has been raining. Kids loved it and I loved the views.
Lovely walk from Buttermere village along Buttermere lake to scale force falls. Takes about 1 hour to get there, well worth a visit
Wonderful hike to this gem! Beautiful views and if you are fit & capable it's worth pushing ahead to the very top. Good footwear is essential and especially if wet as the ground can be very boggy and muddy. Walked end August 23 over a wet week. Great range of plants, flowers and wild mushrooms & fruits on the walk as well as bird life. Paths are clear and easy to negotiate for the most part but caution and some planning is required. Good footwear is essential.
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
