A tranquil and serene spot, Scout Dike Reservoir is a picturesque man-made lake surrounded by rolling hills and lush greenery. The reservoir's calm waters reflect the beauty of the surrounding landscape, creating a sense of peace and tranquility. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks around the reservoir's perimeter, taking in the sights and sounds of nature, or try their hand at fishing, with the reservoir being stocked with a variety of fish species. The surrounding countryside offers scenic views, with an abundance of wildlife and flora to discover.
Great walk not too difficult joined it up with Royd moor reservoir to make it longer.
It's a really interesting place. I think in terms of flora, fauna, and wildlife some research could help. A lot to see. You can walk all the way around, the pathways are good, suitable for dogs, children and prams. I don't think there are any toilets and make sure to take drinks.
A circular walk that has everything. Massive views, beautiful meadows, great for birding, easy paths, quiet villages to pass through, all this on a 3 reservoirs walk recommended from a local magazine with good directions and illustrated map, took us 4.5 hours from the carpark. I fully recommend this walk, take a good pair of binoculars, on a clear day you will from the highest point be highly rewarded.
Visit often, lovely walk with our little dog, area clean and tidy, there's an even newly laid path to follow all round the reservoir with a couple of benches for a sandwich stop, lots of wildlife esp butterflies & crickets, ample car parking, we are so lucky to have this on our doorstep, only just over 15 mins from Barnsley. It's about 2miles walk round & there's a few steps to go down from the car park depending which way you go. There's a picnic table next to the car park as well. it would be good if there was another waste bin somewhere along the walk.
Lovely walk, shame about the lame dog walkers leaving dog poo around on paths.
Lovely paths with hard standing gravel used! Great for a stroll around and a look! Friendly people and overall a great walking spot!
