This scenic viewpoint offers breathtaking panoramas of the Severn Estuary and the surrounding countryside. On a clear day, visitors can see for miles, taking in the sights of the Welsh mountains and the English countryside. The viewpoint is surrounded by rolling hills and woodland, making it a picturesque spot for a picnic or a leisurely walk. Information boards at the viewpoint provide insight into the local history, geology, and wildlife, adding an educational element to the attraction.
If you're 35 stone in weight and a heavy smoker then consider swerving this one, should you be approaching from the eastern side. Situated on the Severn Way path and offering a goodish viewpoint over the Severn estuary with a, just-about view of the Severn Bridge, the exact access point for this is either from the motorway services or in my case from Rushen Lane. It's a more pleasant approach from the east, walking on top of a raised bank alongside the estuary, a good place for bird watching but rubbish for people watching as I saw nobody that day although I did capture sights such as an old out-of-place railway carriage, minus roof and walls but plus graffiti. Who brings spray paint all the way out here, I wondered. Anyway, I say, more pleasant approach, that's with the exception of the climb up the hill to the viewpoint. 45 degrees and one of those climbs that makes you ponder how you're not quite as fit as you once were. Now I couldn't find anything online about it but my guess is that the collapsed concrete structure at the viewpoint location is part of a reservoir or something underneath as there's similar concrete things nearby and it just felt like it should be a reservoir. So it can have 3 out of 5 stars as it's a nice quiet spot with potentially dramatic views, the only thing that lets the viewpoint down is the vegetation which gets in the way of the, er, view. Also, I can't help but notice on Google Maps satellite view, that 45 metres to the south west there's blatantly an alien symbol in the grass, so that gains it a star. There's a nearby electricity substation but there's no bonus points for that. Just thought I'd mention about the substation. Oh and I scratched my name into the concrete, so yeah, that was me.
