Looking like a Medieval castle, this folly was built much later & is now illuminated at night.
This is a great viewing point uptop the hill. It offers panoramic views of the Bath city and is situated at the end of the trail. The Bath Golf Club is right next to. Parking is on a street a few meters down and before you reach the spot. Google maps took us to Golf Club parking which is reserved only for members. This is a free to visit place, and there are no food options nearby. The Golf Club has a restaurant on site that may cater to you on week days when the place is not busy - phone in advance to check.
Quirky little folly up a fairly steep (but short) walk from the canal, with a peek-a-boo view of Bath. A good way to get your blood pumping. Free, public access via public footpaths. However, a much more expansive view of Bath is found at the Bath Skyline viewpoint, which we passed on our walk up from the canal.
A free attraction where you can get some beautiful photos. Unfortunately, it has a bit of graffiti around it, but that doesn't affect its beauty from a distance. You can catch some great views of Bath if you explore nearby. As far as I could tell, there's no specific parking for Sham Castle, we parked in the area right next to it which I assume is for the golf club. The road leading to the golf club is narrow in places and busy at certain times, if you're inexperienced, don't let it worry you, we did it in an SUV and had no issues. It's a nice little place to spend an hour or two exploring.
We hiked up from the city center on the trail, which was a bit steep and muddy in spots and could be very slippery if the field stones are wet. For us, the attraction was the exercise and the view of the city.
Weirdly, a castle named 'sham castle' isn't really a castle, but a folly - who knew?! There is a car park next to it (I assume it's for the golf course), but it's much more rewarding to scale the hill and get the lovely views, though it's not as easy as some other people made it look!
So it's not exactly a 'castle' but there is a great view over Bath from here. It's kinda one wall of a castle which is a tad random but it's worth a look I guess if you're in the area. It's right next to a golf course up a steep hill. There is parking right next to it so it's easily accessible and it's a good high up view of the city.
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
