This 180-foot-tall tower stands as a tribute to the Sherwood Foresters regiment, offering panoramic views of the surrounding countryside from its observation deck.
Visited mid afternoon on first Saturday of June 2024. Sunny clear day so spectacular views in all directions. Cafe, with toilets, closed at 3pm. PS1.50 voluntary parking and PS0.50 to climb Memorial Tower (well worth the steep climb). Lots of open well maintained grassed areas and benches.
Nice memorial for a local regiment, plus you get great views of the countryside. Word of warning you are expected to pay to park, there is a not very well signposted collection box just before you enter, you drop your money into it, doing this and also taking care on the grass with your car will ensure you avoid the wrath of the warden who oversees the facility, I would suggest taking the attitude that not everyone is a local and maybe accepting the signage for the car park pay box could be better will save him a lot of stress. You can go up the tower for an extra better view, this costs 50p so make sure you have money on you...
Great Views Chrich Stand can be seen from the outskirts of Nottingham (14 miles as the crow flies) thrTramway Museum Trackway runs along the quarry at is base. A great day out
I'm proud to have served with 1wfr so it's a place close to my heart. You can go to the top of the memorial tower and can see for miles, its quite surreal seeing names of fallen soldiers that I served with RIP brothers SFSH. The cafe there is cheap and the staff are very friendly and welcoming, they are also dog friendly so feel free to take your dog for a nice walk with you as well.
Very good monument to all those poor soldiers. Very respectful and proper. And the area had a nice wide layout. Great view especially from the top of the tower. Most of the steps up were unusually wide until the final section so relatively easy. It would have been good to have a sign at the top of the tower indicating the various landmarks, especially as we were unfamiliar with the area. Pity there are car park charges & tower entry charges. Extremely cheap but still a pity there's any charge. There was a sign giving a brief history of the brazier tower next to it. We enjoyed our short visit there. It was clearly well maintained. We were there at the end of the day, and as we were leaving the guy turned up (on time) who was obviously about to close it up. He smiled & waved in a nice friendly way. (Situated just around the corner to Crich Tramway Village which we also did.) Excellent monument and really very well designed.
Excellent. PS1.50 for parking, and 50p per person to access the tower itself via honesty boxes. Views for miles, and plenty of information boards relating to the monument and regiment. Lots of benches to sit and reflect. 59 spiral steps to the top of the tower, so be prepared if going with kids, only room for 4 at the top. Grounds nicely kept. Tea room on site, which is a bonus too.
Wheelchair-accessible car park

Good for kids
