The Sherwood Observatory is a astronomical observatory located in Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire, England. It features a 12-inch (30 cm) Meade LX200 telescope, which is one of the largest telescopes in the UK available for public use. The observatory offers stargazing sessions, astronomy talks, and viewing nights, providing visitors with a unique opportunity to explore the night sky and learn about the universe.
I had a brilliant visit during their open day. All the members were friendly and knowledgeable with a keenness to explain various scopes on demonstration. It was a great to learn the highlights on what's happening in the Solar world and a wonderful opportunity to look around the development of their new planetarium. I'm looking forward to going back later in the year to see the finished planetarium, have a coffee in the new cafe and experience it in full operation. The new planetarium has been built on top of the old water reservoir (building) that will still be accessible by the general public and will house various articles for display.
Went up to the new sherwood observertary on my bike to look at the progress of the new visitor centre due to open in late november! I've already got their t-shirt and car sticker! from the ashfield show when they had a tent there.
Had a look through the sun telescope and the original hand built one. Talk about various ways we can learn about the sky ie Hubble telescope uses mirrors, others use radio waves etc. Very interesting. New venue opens Nov which will be brilliant.
Great experience and friendly staff, passionate about their job. Definitely will come again. Can't wait to see the planetarium.
Great open evening. Great talk in their lecture room. The telescope was really impressive. Great for kids of all ages. Really great price on tickets. I recommend buying tickets in advance as they can sell out so quickly. Nice little refreshments area with lush cakes.
Amazing visit during an open day. Brilliant, friendly and knowledgeable volunteers. Great experience, excited to see the opening of the new centre.
